Jackson glanced around his dining room table and tried to decide if the flowers and candles were too much. Maybe he should have just gone with one or the other. Would Simon think he was treating him like a woman? He’d just been trying to create a romantic setting, but seeing the table set and the candles lit on either side of the full vase of roses, he was beginning to second-guess himself.

He glanced at his watch and cursed. Simon was due any minute, so he had to either remove them now or forget about it. He waffled a few more moments, and then his doorbell rang.

Time’s up, Allbrook.

Taking a deep breath, he tugged at his rolled-up shirtsleeves to make sure they were straight and checked himself for rogue splatters as he made his way to the front door. The light purple button-up and dark-wash jeans had been another thing he’d dithered about for way too long. He’d had black slacks on but changed out of them at the last minute, not wanting to be overdressed. If he’d taken Simon to Tuscan Oven, his favorite Italian place, then he would have donned a suit jacket, wanting to impress and let everyone around them know that Simon was with him and he had the means to take care of him.

Which… he’d never been worried about things like that in the past. In fact, he’d often refrained from telling women about his job until they’d been on a few dates, not interested in being someone’s sugar daddy.

But he didn’t hate the idea of being Simon’s… well, everything.

There was something so vulnerable about him at times, and then at other moments, he was so brash and open Jackson thought he’d imagined it. But the more he got to know him, the more he realized it was there, just beneath the surface. Simon was getting by just fine on his own, but he wanted someone else to help him. To take care of him.

To regularly rearrange his guts.

It was a mistake to be thinking about that as he opened the door because Simon looked good. His black curls were a bit shorter like he’d gotten them cut, his fades sharp and fresh, and his warm brown skin was fucking glowing with just a hint of sparkle on his Kilimanjaro-high cheekbones and a little silvery purple around his eyes. His lean frame was perfectly encased in a dark purple sweater and the tightest jeans Jackson had ever seen.

Straight white teeth sinking into the bottom lip that had been haunting Jackson all week was the final nail in his coffin.

“Hi,” Simon said, voice unusually soft as he ran his palms over his flat stomach a few times.

He was nervous. He looked good enough to eat and was nervous, and Jackson couldn’t take it.

Reaching out, he snagged one of Simon’s hands and jerked him inside, slamming the door shut as soon as he passed the threshold, then crowding him back up against it. Simon made the sexiest little gasping noise as his shoulders hit the wood.
